Album Info

Monster Movie is the debut studio album by German rock band Can, released in August 1969 by Music Factory and Liberty Records. In 1968 Can had produced an album entitled Prepared to Meet Thy Pnoom, which no record company agreed to release recordings were eventually released on LP in 1981 as part of Delay 1968. Monster Movie was Can's attempt at a more accessible record. Previously the. Формируйте собственную коллекцию записей The Movie is the debut album by Can. Some copies of the LP bore the subtitle Made in a castle with better equipment. Upon its release in 1969, the album became very influential in the development of Krautrock. It is notable for being the only Can album until the 1989 reunion on Rite Time on which Malcolm Mooney performed all of the vocals. Mooney recorded a few songs for the following Soundtracks album and was replaced by Damo Suzuki. Monster Movie is the debut album by Can. Monster Movie. Can - Monster Movie 1969. Monster Movie brings together elements of psychedelic rock, blues, free jazz, world music and other styles, the influence of the Velvet Underground being particularly obvious on the opening track Father Cannot Yell. Can - Monster Movie review: Can's 1969 debut may not be as experimental as. You gotta be crazy if you don't wanna listen to that But then comes the album closer and undisputed highlight: The 20-minute long, improvised Yoo Doo Right. This one is about 2 times as hypnotic and at least 45 more tribal than the rest of Monster Movie, Mooney preaching himself into nirvana, Liebezeit impersonating an African tribesman banging on a wardrum and Karoli doing Thurston Moore before there even was a Thurston Moore. What amazes the most about this track and the rest of the album as well is how concise it is, despite being mostly improvised. Though Monster Movie was the first full-length album in what would become a sprawling and often genre-defining discography, Can were on a level well ahead of the curve even in their most formative days. Recorded and released in 1969, Monster Movie bears many of the trademarks that Can would explore as they went on, as well as elements that would set the scene for the burgeoning Krautrock movement. This would be the only album Can's first singer Malcolm Mooney would sing the entirety of, as he was replaced by Damo Suzuki by the time of 1970's Soundtracks, leaving the band after going. But we often forget Monster Movie, one of the most solid debut albums of all time. The CAN legend was born in 1968 in Köln and was originally. read more. 1mo. By far, this was the first and the best work of The Can Band who takes us on a crazy journey, showing what Krautrock is and starting a magical German movement. Monster Movies is the experiment and organic real prog with these tribal drums, these guitars accompanying Malcolm's voice who sometimes taking over the scene with the help of the drums in a constant expansion until the explosion. I really wanted to know what it was like to hear those songs at that time for the first time. but we are. Monster Movie was released in 1969, and is Can's most rock-oriented album by a considerable margin. Its songs are raw and aggressive- very much informed by The Velvet Underground's larval trance-rock- and they mark Malcolm Mooney as nothing if not an inspired amateur. Father Cannot Yell leaps out of the gate with a hi-speed keyboard flutter and the snap of Jaki Liebezeit's snare. Aumgn and Peking O are the most experimental tracks in the Can catalog, sharing more in common with the irreverent electronic music of Stockhausen or Pierre Henry than most anything related to rock- Ummagumma was a possible exception

Without dialogue, Popee the Performer relies on its soundtrack to convey what is happening. Most of the soundtrack was composed by Osamu Tezuka and sung by Aoyagi Tsuneo, though some tracks were outsourced from other composers most notably Zero-G. The soundtrack to the 1972 controversial film features a number of blues, funk and rock and roll songs as well as the film's score as performed by Ed Bogas and Ray Shanklin. Ever been playing your cat Drunk In Love and been disappointed by its lack of hollering and swooping dance moves That's because you're playing it music that sounds nice to humans, not cats. Since cats use lots of sliding frequencies in their calls, the cat music had many more sliding notes than the human music. As it happens, the music does sound pretty nice to humans too Cozmo's Air could easily be an instrumental Bjork track. Created with Sketch. Inside the dream house for cats

Would anyone be willing to part with their download code card once they’ve used it? I don’t want it for the mp3 download, just the well printed image. I made a fridge magnet out of my card from Tago Mago, and would like to do the same with a couple other of their records. I’ll pay ya a couple buck for it if you like! Thanks!

I have this record, Is this record even worth anything?

My copy is identical to these 1969 issues in most regards, but has the same label as the pressing listed here as a 1973 reissue (the 'United Artists' rim text, song credits on second line). It has the first UA matrices (SRS 001 A 83 342-A), the original Carl v. d. Linnepe-printed sleeve, and a similarly placed 'Electric Rock' sticker which is white/rectangular instead of purple/oval. So, it's an early pressing from the first UA plates, with an original sleeve but a presumed later label. This seems like a 1969 copy to me. Perhaps it's transitional, somewhere between the '69 originals and the '73 repress? But to complicate matters, I have seen copies for sale with the (presumed) very first all-on-one-line labels and the same white sticker as mine. All of which is to say that I'm not convinced the label layout and rim text are a reliable indicator of pressing date.

Gavinranara
Reportedly only 500 copies were made with the original Sleeve before being reissued.

This reissue was released most likely in 1984 as the price sticker on the back on my copy advises.

My version is practically the same as this one. The only difference is that the "All Rights..." around the edges of the labels is in German. And it doesn't have "SPOON004-A" and "SPOON004-B" stamped on the Runout grooves. It does have the "C-66.22..." however. Should my version be considered distinct? My copy was purchased in March 1990 at Rough Trade in Portobello, London.

This first UK press, it should be noted, has the BURGUNDY / ORANGE labels. All other brown / beige labels are represses!(SEE PHOTOS)

I remember going to the then just-opened Virgin Megastore in Oxford St around 1979 or 1980 and being totally agog at the sight of the stock in that place. I was used to small record shops with a section for each band and then one copy of all their different albums within that section. In the Megastore you would find a Monster Movie section, a Future Days section, a Tago Mago section etc etc... each section holding dozens of copies of the same record. Incredible sight in those days. They must have been really shifting stock to have that type of display. But - it was an enormous place, like a wonderland.Anyway - one day I went in and they had dozens of copies of Monster Movie in there. All brand new and this tan label UA edition. They were all £1.99. I think the Virgin warehouse must have held crates of this stuff back then. Of course I bought only one - why would you buy more?Actually - the Virgin branch at Marble Arch was often the best place to visit ... they seemed to have a direct line to the warehouse and stuff would often appear there that didn't show up anywhere else. The normal Virgin place for me to visit at the time was the Brighton branch - but in comparison this was a tiny outlet and can't be compared to the vast London enterprises.

Hra
That first time I went in I had taken some magic mushrooms ... so my experience was further enhanced!

The Sinners from Mitar
Great digger story my friend:) I could only imagine what it would be like to walk into a record store stocked with early edition Can records. I used to frequent a Virgin Megastore in LA in the 90s and they were loaded as you described above as well. You could always find whatever you wanted and for cheap. I miss stores like that.

I'm very doubt that it is 1978 release as Spoon Records was founded only in 1979 and the first releases were Cannibalism and Irmin Schmidt's Filmmusik in 1981. It is very likely 1982 or 1983.

Hi, in case you haven't found out yet, your version is this: Monster Movie

Sironynyr
Can's debut album MONSTER MOVIE and the later anthology of early recordings DELAY 1968 documented a music with 1960's punk energy, pacey rhythms and the manic vocals of Malcolm Mooney. These recordings are a definitive first step to the unique Can sound. Side 1 of MONSTER MOVIE contained three contrasting tracks, two of them being raucous and almost proto-punk sandwiching a light ballad in between. Side 2 featured just the one track, the 20 minute You Doo Right which is often classed as amongst the finest tracks in Can history. It's a track that actually just follows a single theme throughout, continually moving and changing, rarely losing the metronomic beat of Jaki's patent nimble drums. Those wanting more of this phase of Can should check-out DELAY 1968 which aptly has an even more raw 1960's feel and gives even space to Malcolm Mooney's vocal talents.
