The Wheel Weaves as the is not a split album, but rather a collaboration between The Body & Thou. The Body and Thou are bands with Southern roots that have been pushing the boundaries of heavy metal for over a decade. Both have maintained relentless touring schedules, a dedication to DIY ethics and aesthetics, and a commitment to push their respective brands of extreme music into previously unexplored territories. The tour culminated in a performance at the Gilead Metal Fest in July. The Body and Thou plan to reunite in the latter half of 2015 for some more D&D and possibly even some touring. released January 27, 2015. The Body and Thou must get bored easily. During the last decade, both of these delirious doom metal squads have issued records at startling clips, the pace sometimes so speedy its as if theyre desperate to outrun the doomsdays of which they so often yell. Taken as a full-length by two groups that treat the format with some suspicion, You, Whom I Have Always Hated is a remarkably cohesive and singular album. The collective amount of material Thou & The Body have released since the beginning of 2014 has started to blur the line between ambition and absurdity. Thous penchant for motif-driven composition only appears on the last two tracks of the album portentous melodies swell, repeat, and reiterate themselves as The Body chimes in with oscillating spurts of disruptive atonal blare, unintelligible spoken word segments, and concentrated feedback loops. Cleanly sung and harmonized vocal melodies hanging above both bands indicate the end of the record, a final movement that invites listeners to take their eyes off the throbbing earth and look upwards. These are not split records from the bands The Body and Thou, these are fully collaborative efforts between the two. What makes these releases so tasty is that you are not getting a double-sided venture that creates two completely different trains of thought. The stream is constant and the anguish is real all the way through. Together they have released an EP called Released From Love in 2014 that consists of three originals and a Vic Chesnutt cover as well as the album You, Whom I Have Always Hated in 2015. A team-up with equally sludgy Baton Rouge doom metal act Thou was a suitable next chapter when the two entities teamed up in 2014 for the collaborative EP Released from Love. The burning, suffocating walls of downtuned guitars and battle-ready drums found an expanded bedding for both Thou vocalist Bryan Funck's slithering demon whispers and the Body vocalistbassist Chip King's distinctive high-pitched screams.
