Album Info

Produced by Eno and Rhett Davies, it features contributions from several guest musicians including Robert Fripp guitar, Phil Collins drums, Percy Jones fretless bass, and John Cale viola. The album marked a transition from the rock-based music of Eno's previous releases toward the minimalist instrumentals of his late '70s ambient work. Only five. Another Green World - Brian Eno. Released in 1975, Another Green World is the album from Enos discography that acts as a bridge between his pop career and his more recognizable and expansive work as the Godfather of Ambient Music. For the album,s creation process, Eno assembled an eclectic group of musicians to play on the album, including John Cale formerly of the Velvet Underground, Robert Fripp King Crimson, and Phil Collins Genesis. Though this odd crew had some initial hiccups playing together, Eno leveraged some unconventional studio methods that eventually brought the group together in harmony. A universally acknowledged masterpiece, Another Green World represents a departure from song structure and toward a more ethereal, minimalistic approach to sound. Despite the stripped-down arrangements, the album's sumptuous tone quality reflects Eno's growing virtuosity at handling the recording studio as an instrument in itself à la Brian Wilson. By the end of 1975, hed release at least two more, including something called Discreet Music, which pioneered the textured drift of what Eno later called ambient. At the time he conceived of Discreet Music, just a few months before he found himself panicked on the studio floor, Eno was lying in a London hospital after being hit by a taxi

Eno's analog music definitely benefits from presentation in the digital domain. The American LP of Music for Films was terrible, crackly sounding, and impossible to track properly. Eno's approach differed significantly from both that, and from others, in that his music was not pop-oriented either. Music for Films is the unrecognized link between Discreet Music and Music for Airports - it is essential Eno, and a landmark collection drawn from among his work. Auto-generated by Music 1975 is the fourth studio album by the British musician Brian Eno, and the first released under his full name Brian Eno as opposed to simply Eno. The album is a minimalist work featuring synthesizer and tape delay. The A-side consists of one 30-minute piece, while the B-side features three variations on Canon in D Major by Johann Pachelbel, performed by the Cockpit Ensemble and conducted by Gavin Bryars. Приобретайте пластинки, компакт-диски и многое другое от Brian Eno на маркетплейсе Eno-who is 11 years Brians junior-is a steady, prolific musician, with a discography spanning over three decades and 25 albums both solo and collaborative. He made his initial foray into music with 1983s soundtrack album Apollo, which he created alongside his brother and the renowned producer Daniel Lanois. Roger co-wrote one of the most well-known tracks from that album, not to mention one of the best of Brian Enos career, Deep Blue Day, a song that gained fresh momentum in the 1990s when it was featured on the multi-million-selling Trainspotting soundtrack. Stuart creates a 60-minute playlist of music that has had Brian Eno's magic touch as a contributor, performer, remixer or producer. Including the first ever recording that he appeared on as part of Cornelius Cardew's Scratch Orchestra in 1971, his long friendship with Robert Wyatt and a curve ball from U2's back catalogue. But for Eno, who might be the closest thing contemporary pop music has to a public intellectual-he recently co-signed an open letter criticizing the British governments overtures to Donald Trump-creating generative electronic music is, in itself, a kind of political act: a rejection of hierarchy in favor of ecological models of existence. Brian Eno: I often work here in the evening. Its when I get a bit of peace. I have speakers everywhere, so I can have three-dimensional sound. Music, Brian Eno. Go To. Eno's interest in recording technology and experimental approaches can be traced to his studies at Ipswich Art School and the Winchester School of Art, but he had little actual musical training when he joined the glam rock band Roxy Music in 1971. He left the band in 1973 over a creative conflict with frontman Bryan Ferry, taking his weirdness with him. Advertisement . Eno studied at art school, taking inspiration from minimalist painting, but he had little musical education or playing experience when hejoined the band Roxy Music as their keyboards and synthesizers player in the early 1970s. Roxy Music's success in the glam rock scenecame quickly, but Eno soon tired of conflicts with lead singer more. Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno born 15 May 1948, commonly known as Brian Eno or simply as Eno, is an Englishmusician, composer, record producer, singer and visual artist, known as one of the principal innovators of ambi. In 1978, Brian Eno released Ambient 1: Music for Airports , a landmark album in ambient and electronic music. Although it wasnt the first ambient album by any means, it was the first album explicitly released as an ambient music album. The album was essentially a continuation of Enos experiment. Enos experiments with tape loops go as far back as 1973s No Pussyfooting, a collaboration with King Crimsons Robert Fripp that employed an early experiment in sound-on-sound tape looping

This does not sound good. The official Japan releases of Eno albums I have blow these bootlegs out of the water. This actually sounds like it comes from a CD source. The pressing is actually good tho. Flat, centered and quiet, thick vinyl. But the sound just doesn’t measure up to the official release. The impact of the sound is weak. And I actually have the bootleg Japanese press of Warm Jets and it sounds better than this one. Like some stated this might not even be from Japan but an unofficial release masquerading like it’s was pressed in Japan. The drums and bass have no impact whereas on my official Japanese B&A Science release, the sound just knocks you out. This is not a good edition of this album.

IGOT
This can be distinguished from the original by the black font on the OBI strip, the original has an OBI with red font. And the sound on this is definitely more tame. I would avoid this issue. The record doesn’t sound half bad but it was cut quiet and I keep waiting for the music to hit the sonic impact that I would hope for on this heavy drum and bass album but it misses the mark slightly. It just doesn’t open up. While it doesn’t sound compressed it just sounds like it was mastered at too low of a volume. Drums are pretty weak. Might even be a fake Japanese bootleg. I have a couple other official Eno Japanese releases and they all sound so much better than this unofficial bootleg. So don’t be fooled.

Bludworm
Dead silent wax on blue splattered vinyl, manufactured in Japan. It's unofficial, but it's the way to go.

Mananara
I have the Editions EG reissue Eno* - Another Green World and was skeptical to buy this one, because I usually don't buy the same album twice, but the reviews made me curios. To be on the short side: I don't know if those were the limitations of the 70's, but the reissue I have sounds like a lo-fi version of this remaster and when I bought the reissue, I was thinking that maybe this was the sound that defined experimental/ambient music back then. This remaster brings a new light on the old release, and lots of details surfaced up: as mentioned on the strip, the highs are improved (but I think this is just the re-mastering, not the half-speed stuff), the baseline is not stronger as mentioned somewhere below, but rather the higher harmonics have been highlighted and the bass sounds are a bit more meaty. With the opening of the high-frequency, the stereo image has improved and the voices are more prominent and more easy to be separated. Overall, it's a fantastic release with very low surface noise. One thing I observed through most of the re-issues now days: I don't think that they have access to the original artworks anymore, and some details are lost on many releases (different colors, more pixelated, etc.). But since we're talking music here, for me it doesn't matter as much if the music is good.

great ant
Yep just got this recently and can confirm it is a quiet pressing with some nice bass tones there and a retro sound, rather than some of the recent remasters which are too loud and harsh.

Nuadora
Great music but picky buyers should be aware that Editions EG pressings are invariably full of surface noise. It doesn't matter how beautiful they look, the crackle will start with the first note and continue until the last.

Owomed
I confirm, although it's not necessarily crackle, but more like dirt that maybe was caught on the press and causes like a short hiss sounds, similar to tape. It's not very predominant, but appears from time to time.

Άνουβις
Incredible sounding pressing. Very dynamic sound, extremely quiet vinyl. Ideal for this album.

Snake Rocking
the date on my cover says 1976. IS this different to others?

Morad
The tone is perfect. It's a shallow mastering, not loud whatsoever. My copy was covered in dirt, mostly white paper dust. But after two vacuum cleanings, there was still a lot of pops and crackle -- maybe debris pressed into the shallow grooves, or a tired plate from the end of the run. Subbed out the generic inner sleeve right away for plastic.Update: after another cleaning, some of the pops are gone. This is the second-most warped record in my collection (the stylus lifting 3 or 4 mm each rev), which is probably due to the shop where I got it. My first-most warped was purchased at the same time.

Kulalbine
I am almost certain this is from 1982 and not 1977 as listed here. In any event, a very thick and wonderful sounding pressing!

Ishnllador
bought this record the other day, I was a little concerned based on the reviews here and on Amazon about side two and warping. Happy to report that my copy is perfect, sounds exceptional all the way through. Really glad I didn't shell out for the 45 repress.

Kazracage
This is a perfect pressing, zero noise, absolutely beautiful sound. It just can't be better. The Big Ship and Becalmed are pure bliss

Frlas
I noticed a significant amount surface noise and clicks, however dust was building up on my stylus as the record played. I cleaned it off and replayed each track and then it was noise free. I repeated this for each track on each disc. I always clean every record before playing it for the first time and this was no exception. Even though the discs were visually flawless there was a lot of crap deep in the grooves. once i played it through and kept my stylus clean it played dead quiet.

Cerana
I think your cleaning station/tools might need some cleaning themselves.

Agamaginn
Sound is good but I had to exchange my original copy due to a skip right at the beginning of Little Fishes. New copy sounds great and is not warped.

Foxanayn
Where it isn't rammed full of clicks throughout the first disc it sounds really good......

Fegelv
Mine has obvious non-fill on side B and a dish warp. But the cut itself sounds great.

Agantrius
Someone comment on the quality of this pressing and sound plz . . .

Flas
Is excelent the quality of the record, buy it my friend. An interesting thing is that it's not a 180 gram pressing which I love sometimes is so cool to comeback to the times where the Records were flexible. Cheers my friend.

Coidor
Mine is dead quiet and sounds damn good. No pops whatsoever

Macage
It’s good. They use the same masters from the 45 RPM set. Clean pressing and sounds great compared to my original pressing.

Enone
Quality early UK reissue. I could hear no difference in sound when compared back to back to the Island UK original. I have also heard the US 1982 reissue (EG editions) and without comparing it directly to any other issue, it sounded really thin to my ears.

Kemath
Great info, we need more comments like this throughout discogs.

Clodebd
How does this sound, compared to the original? Thank you !!!!!

Golden Lama
I wish the rest of my records sounded this good.

Billy Granson
Seems everyone got really clean pressings, mine looks clean but there was some crackling on side B of disc 2. Anyone else notice this? I usually wouldn’t complain but I paid $45 for this thing.

Zolorn
My autographed copy from Rough Trade came with at least a few pops on every side. Talking to their customer service representative who has helped me throughout the purchase. I have been offered a replacement for the records in the album but have not received them yet.

Washington
I have three other copies of this record: a Canadian and U.S. EG, both reissues from the early 80s, and a US Island reissue from the mid 70s. This 1/2 speed mastering version is the best sounding out of all of them, by far. The highs are crystal clear and the bass is nice and deep. It's also an excellent, clean pressing with no noise or defects. There are a few very brief dropouts in one channel, but they are barely noticeable and don't detract from the listening experience. I'm confident in stating that in terms of sound quality, this is the version to own.

Ohatollia
Anyone having clicks in the last track of disc 2 side A?

The Rollers of Vildar
Yes, in the latter half of mentioned track I have clicks. Although this pressing sounds amazing, I've encountered at least a tiny discrepancy on each of my copy's sides unfortunately. I don't know how to complain however since this was an autographed not-so-mint press. I am hoping that if this is not worth disputing with Rough Trade and/or they can't do anything for me, I will find some time for some intensive professional cleaning.

Andriodtargeted
Probably the best sounding vinyl record I have ever heard.

Ann
I am very pleased with this pressing as well. Compared to my vg+ german copy from the 70s, the 45rpm treatment and the nicely pressed vinyl make this album shine. However, it is kind of a drag to switch sides every 10 minutes or so. kind of destroys the ambient atmosphere of the album.

Arthunter
Another Green World with deep punchy bass? Pinch me I must be dreaming! Never mind the nay-sayers, this pressing is nothing short of amazing! And as for all the side flipping, this album was never background music for me. I always sit up and listen closely. So playing the DJ doesn't bother me at all.

Madis
I am just now finishing up the second side of the second record, and I must say I am really impressed. This reissue is really top notch. Sure the OBI strip and 'Mastering Certificate' is a little hokey, but you can't argue with results. The packaging is solid and the pressing is heavy, quiet, and free of scuffs or scratches. I don't know with 100% certainty how these reissues were remastered or sourced, but I can tell you after some pretty exhaustive researching I decided to buy three of these Eno reissues with zero regrets so far. Over on the Steve Hoffman forums a few users have claimed (citing emails from the the guy who mastered these reissues, Miles Showell) that these LPs were sourced from 1/4" tapes and not the DSD files from the 2004 CD reissues. While I don't know that for sure, I can tell you that this is the best I've ever heard this album sound. To be clear, I do not own an original pressing nor have I ever heard one on a top of the line system, but this pressing made my Cornwalls sing! I can easily recommend this pressing for anyone who doesn't have an original. I wish all reissues were this quality.

Qutalan
It is sourced from the master tapes but they made a high resolution digital file out of them. http://www.superdeluxeedition.com/feature/abbey-road-engineer-explains-why-half-speed-mastering-produces-great-vinyl/

Era
How does this sound compared to past releases? Anything noticeably different?

JUST DO IT
I was sceptical but you really can hear the difference. Louder (as always) but warmer & deeper also. I'm hearing things in it I've not heard before. I'm not sure how they've done it, as the source tape would not have been all that hi fi I'd've thought. Highly recommended.

I have a "Made in Japan" edition of Here Come the Warm Jets on colored vinyl. It is correctly listed as Unofficial. Pretty sure this is from the same bootlegger. Fortunately for me the Here Come the Warm Jets release sounds really good.

Sound quality is acceptable on mine. Purchased this from Amoeba in SF, was taped up like crazy so couldn't inspect. Very poorly trimmed vinyl, initially appeared off center but just has a ton of waste run in on one side of the record. If a boot not the first ive ended up with from Amoeba. Disappointing for sure from a "reputable" retailer, especially one with their prices.

monotronik
I picked this up the other day. I thought I'd scored a good find. The vinyl is a light-purple swirl. The sound quality is terrible - the manufacturing is poor. Crackles throughout, sometimes very loud - and this after a professional cleaning.

Keth
my copy and the low prices this has gone for seem to suggest that this is a modern bootleg or re-issue

Gandree
So was this even made in Japan then ?

Viashal
I really doubt it. My vinyl copy is not smooth when reflected in the light, in the areas around the 2nd and 3rd track - hardly up to the quality of a real Japan pressing. But sounds pretty good.

Erienan
There's a much more common blue label variant of this. Needs a separate entry as it was probably a '77 repress.

Awene
This is a pirate pressing, the inner notes and track titles are poorly translated and unprofessional.Doesn't sound half bad though.

Mogelv
This i'm pretty sure is a bootleg. The Japanese writing on the obi is totally fake. It is not readable to a Japanese reader.

deadly claw
Artist working in the medium of sound. A masterpiece created by a genius, and I don't use that term lightly!

fabscf
You said it so damn right , one of the greatest albums ever , a true artistic testimony !!!!!!!!!!!

Naktilar
My copy has a Polydor sticker on the top right of the back of the jacket. There is an "i" for Island at the bottom of the back of the jacket. Printed in England by Robor Limited. Also, instead of "ENO" on the label, it says "STEREO". The "ST 33" are in circles, rather than boxes. I can't find another listing for mine, what is it?

GawelleN
I've just picked up this version too. Looks like polydor pressing in old stickered Island sleeve. I have a Warm Jets in similar condition.

Jazu
Confusingly, my copy has the same label, but white in colour, instead of black. The label resembles the American repress, but is definitely Canadian also.

Barinirm
Same here. White instead of black label, but identical in every other way to the above Canadian version.

Ylal
Alternative edition EGCD 21 "Mastered by Nimbus"

Narder
My copy has the catalogue number of ILPS 19351 which does not seem to be listed here - the number is almost identical to the UK and US 1975 pressings. There is some text in Italian on the record and sleeve but it doesn't match the Italian pressing above either. It may be an original Italian pressing rather than a repress. Does anybody else's copy have the same catalogue number?

Memuro
My copy has a typo on the rear tray track listing. The last track is mispelt 'Spirits Drifiting'. Shoddy proofreading by the EMI Artwork team!

Puchock
Absolute Classic!!! Run, don't walk, to buy it.

Ungall
Just did it.

Tenius
A remarkable album, made right on the edge between Eno's glamorous rock-work (i.e. "Here come the warm jets") and his following ambient-pieces. One can say this is Eno's best album, if absolute values count, but at least it is one of his most homogenous and hermetic works. A brilliant backing band and wonderful songs make this album a must.
