Panic is made to be played inside large warehouses, open air or a club where there is more than one floor or balcony, platform etc, so people can enjoy viewing the crowd throwing shapes from above whilst the lasers, strobes, trippy lighting does the work for you, visually. Not enough clubs feature simple, classic green laser sheets, fog and strobe lights anymore. Apologies for the digression. Getting back to the music: It's very expansive, with the echo and reverb which needs lots of room and a good sound system to accomodate it. Arguably, I wouldn't necessarily say it's a typical Joey Beltram production of that era though. What tends to give the game away is the drum beat arrangement in my opinion and those tightly packed snares.

Groove Attack on the other hand, could've easily been produced and released during 1993, even 1994 and many people wouldn't have bat an eyelid. Especially since by the latter part of 1993 and well into 1994 a major branch of techno was taking on an increasingly more minimal form where the intricacy of detailed, lo-fi percussion was heralded over power riffs, melody, psychotic synths or fierce stabs. Perhaps predicting ahead to his latter productions such as the ones on the Dance Generator LP or Re-releases 1989 - 1991. Yet this one's also seemingly taking inspiration from the Steve Poindexter, Robert Armani, Mike Dunn, Dance Mania school of 1989-1990 production style. The acid is really gritty, dirty and the percussion is as tight as a Fruit Fly's buttocks. Something Joey might've been consciously trying to perfect at that time. Some techno or acid tracks sound out of place alongside other subgenres of house, techno, hardcore etc. This one I imagine can slip into any set.

For those who are open minded and like to experiment. Try doing a mix up/mash with Doc Scott - Surgery (Ordinary Mix) or Midday Mix. Switching from one track to another or element of a track with the other. Somehow, to my ears it's like a perfect partnership.

The vocal sample on "Panic" is same as in a self titled Voodoo Child (Moby) track on an Instinct Records comp I have from the same time period. Is that just a super common sample/preset from something? Both great tracks imo.

This is upthere right next to energy flash and mentasm, no doubt. 2 killer acid cuts both very different to one another but both equally as tough and mindbending.
Panic for me is so much a warehouse sound, a real booming atmosphertic acid adventure, i can picture myself in a huge warehouse full of that disco fog stuff and straight green lasers wacking everywhere,with the big sound of panic everywhere.
Groove attack is also a quality acid affair with old school vocal samples used to a great effect.
I just managed to get hold of this 12" by complete accident, it was in with a pile of allsorts i aquired.It just happens to be a track i have wanted since first hearing it about 15 years ago, on a hippodrome tape i used to have, back to back with UR track Panic.

Nobody probably knows that these tracks are made by Joey Beltram in 1991 , the same periode when Energy Flash was doing his thing on the dancefloors.
So it makes sense that this record is a bit of the same stuff, & it is, only better.
I love the track Groove Attack, simply couse it's a bloody good acid track, with a groovy subbass, acid bleebs,& a dark warehouse sound.The records itself has a good soundquality to it.Panic,say's it allready, a dark tune,with a sample of UR's panic..
