The Best of Budgie was the fourth compilation album by Welsh rock band Budgie, released in 1997. The compilation contained tracks only from the third, fourth and fifth studio albums, much like the 1975 compilation of the same name. All tracks are written by Burke Shelley and Tony Bourge, except where noted. Burke Shelley - bass guitar and vocals all tracks. Tony Bourge - guitar all tracks. Ray Phillips - drums tracks 1, 2 & 7. Pete Boot - drums tracks 4, 8 & 10. Best Of Budgie was the first compilation album by Welsh rock band Budgie. It contained tracks from the band's third, fourth and fifth studio albums. Budgie: Were a Welsh heavy metal band from Cardiff. They are described by author Garry Sharpe-Young as one of the earliest heavy metal bands and a seminal influence to many acts of that scene, with fast, heavy rock an influence on the new wave of British heavy metal and acts such as Metallica being played as early as 1971. Peter Edward Clarke born 21 August 1957, known professionally as Budgie, is an English drummer. His first recording was with The Spitfire Boys in 1977 and then the Slits in 1979.
